Our Mission
Tether Dance Project draws from dance as a vehicle for personal and collective storytelling and seek to celebrate diverse movement narratives. We aim to community-build and create mutual support for young and upcoming artists from all walks of life.
Tether was born from UC Berkeley’s Tether Dance Company founded in late 2023. Tether Dance Company was Tatianna, Teo and Ella’s senior project as Dance Major’s at UC Berkeley and was supported by the Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies department.
Our dance style bridges contemporary and modern dance through an expressive, interdisciplinary approach. Rooted in Horton, Graham, improvisation and release techniques, our work blends structured choreography with improvisation, voice, and gesture to create dynamic, emotionally resonant performances. Our artistic practice is deeply collaborative, drawing from the personal narratives and physical vocabularies of our dancers, as well as the environments in which we move. We explore themes of identity, belonging, and human connection, often integrating spoken word, poetry, and multimedia elements.
Our performances are designed to be both intimate and expansive, fostering a visceral dialogue between performers and audiences. Whether in a theater, a site-specific location, or an experimental setting, we seek to challenge conventions and push the boundaries of contemporary dance, creating work that is both technically rigorous and deeply felt.
