To the Soulmates I Once Called Strangers

The first iteration of Soulmates, To the Soulmates I Once Called Strangers, explores the fleeting yet profound intimacy found in the arms of a stranger. Inspired by Ocean Vuong’s Seventh Circle of Earth, the piece moves through tenderness, urgency, and the quiet ache of connection that exists outside of time. Through weight-sharing, breath-driven movement, and improvisational storytelling, the dancers trace the delicate line between solitude and togetherness. This work honors the love that lingers in passing moments—ephemeral, yet deeply imprinted on the body. Conceived in August 2023, To the Soulmates I Once Called Strangers was performed In December 2023 at UC Berkeley’s Black Box Theater as part of the TDPS Fall Choreography Showcase.
